Paramount Home Entertainment has unleashed another disc with the adventures of Spongebob and his co-stars Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Craps and gang. 10 episodes of the Nickelodeon TV series have been included here and I found them to be an exciting mix, as there are no real weak ones here. Whether it’s ’Pink Loser’ ’Squirrel Jokes’ or the hilarious ’Squidsville,’ all the episodes are certainly showing the series at the peak of its performance.

The DVD contains the original fullscreen presentation of the episodes. While the image is generally clean and free of defects I found the transfer to be lacking definition a bit. The source seems to have a very low definition and as a result a variety of video artifacts and washed out details are evident. Nonetheless the image is certainly better than the disgrace coming out of your cable or satellite dish. Colors are strong and vibrant, nicely bringing to life the colorful underwater world of Bikini Bottom.

Audio is provided as a solid Dolby Digital Stereo track with good integration. Dialogues are balanced and never drowned out and the quirky music of the series is also perfectly presented without notable limitations or deficiencies.

Two of the DVD’s episodes contain a commentary track by writer Stephen Hillenburg and Tom Kenny, the voice of Spongebob. While one would expect a very twisted commentary here I found them to be rather boring and uninspired, almost as if neither had any real inclination to record these commentaries. Too bad really ,as there is plenty to talk about when it comes to the show, the characters, the production and the success of such a series.

Fans of ’Spongebob’ don’t want to pass on this one. It’s a great way to revisit some episode highlights until Paramount will release the show season-by-season at a later point.
