The next batch of ’The Simpsons’ DVDs is here! The complete second season of the animated TV series is presented on 4-discs in this set from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, continuing the trend of their previous release.

The set contains the episodes ’Bart Gets an F’, ’Simpson and Delilah’, ’The Simpson’s Halloween Special: Tree House of Horror I’, ’Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish’ ,’Dancin’ Homer’, ’Dead Putting Society’, ’Bart Vs. Thanksgiving’, ’Bart the Daredevil’, ’Itchy and Scratchy and Marge’, ’Bart Gets Hit By a Car’, ’One Fish Two Fish Blowfish Blue Fish’, ’The Way We Was’, ’Homer Vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment’, ’Principal Charming’, ’Oh Brother Where Are Thou? ’, ’Bart’s Dog Gets an F’, ’Old Money’, ’Brush with Greatness’, ’Lisa’s Substitute’, ’The War of the Simpsons’, ’Three Men and a Comic Book’ and ’Blood Feud.’

Each of the episodes is presented in its original fullscreen aspect ratio in a transfer that is very clean and stable. The image is basically free of noise and grain, painting solid colors and bold strokes. Due to a very high bitrate used for the video presentation, the image features bold colors and edges that are free of any compression artifacts, making the best of the material and allowing you to view ’The Simpsons’ like you’ve ever seen them before.

The DVDs contain newly remixed 5.1 channel Dolby Digital mixes for each episode as well as the original Dolbu surround tracks. The 5.1 mixes are good, though the limitations of the original elements is still evident, resulting in a limited frequency response with weak basses and a somewhat flat dynamic range. Each episode is also accompanies by a commentary track featuring Matt Groening and a number of other crew members who created these episodes. The commentaries are always animated and fun, full of insight and valuable information that will certainly satisfy the Simpsons fans.

Each disc contains beautifully animated menus and on the fourth disc also contains a number of special features, such as an excerpt from the American Music Awards where Bart appeared to present an award, as well as full length Director’s Cut version of the ’Deep Depp Trouble’ and ’Do The Bartman’ music videos, all accompanied by an optional commentary track. The Butterfinger commercials, promo material, and an interview with Matt Groening and James L. Brooks is also part of the release, as well as a hilarious clip from the 1990 Emmy Award presentation in which ’The Simpsons’ made an unexpected, animated appearance. Storyboards from various episodes and some foreign language clips to show you how your favorite characters sound in different countries around the world.

Once again 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment delivers! ’The Simpsons: The Complete Second Season’ is every bit as good as you have hoped – and better. Great video, cool audio and a slew of extras that will make you laugh – all wrapped up in a presentation that is faithful to the series. What else can you ask for?
