Anyone who has ever seen the spectacular shows that the Candian troupe Cirque Du Soleil stage, knows that their productions are a feast for the eyes, the ears and all other senses. Even more, they are a treat for your mind as well because in many instances it is hard to believe your eyes when you see acrobats and athletes perform circus acts that seemingly defy gravity or most other physical laws for that matter.

’Dralion’ is Cirque Du Soleil’s latest production with which they toured the lands last year to constantly sold out houses. And once again they managed to up the ante quite a bit with a production that is as entertaining as it is hypnotic. Filled with beautiful costumes, fantastic music, mesmerizing characters and spectacular acts, ’Dralion’ has an Asian theme and it freely mixes Chinese and Japanese influences despite the suggestion of a purely Chinese production.

Columbia TriStar Home Video is presenting this 90 minute production in an anamorphic widescreen presentation in a HDTV friendly 1.78:1 aspect ratio. Upon viewing it I have no doubt that this production was created with high definition television in mind, and it shows. The picture is stellar in its quality with beautiful sharpness and magnificent colors that bring the entire beauty of the production to life. The blacks are deep and at no point is there any distracting unbalance in the picture. The compression is very good without artifacts of any sort, making the DVD of ’Dralion’ as breathtaking as the production itself.

Violaine Corradi’s beautiful score – once again blending Chinese and Japanese themes – is another Cique Du Soleil masterpiece. Very rhythmic with a varying degree of textures, enchantingly performed and sung, it adds immensely to the overall flair of the circus act and the 5.1 Dolby Digital mix is wide with very good dynamics.

This is a great DVD and the only thing that actually beats it, it seeing Cique Du Soleil live!
