Those of you who are familiar with the character Tigger from the ’Winnie the Pooh’ stories, will no doubt know that that last line of his theme song is ’The most wonderul thing about Tiggers is that I’m the only one.’ In the new Disney DVD release, ’The Tigger Movie’, Tigger begins to ponder that point. What if he’s not the only Tigger? Tigger has been feeling lonely because no one wants to bounce with him, so he decides that he will find his family of Tiggers. All of Tigger’s friends in the Hundred Acre Wood — Winnie the Pooh, Roo, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Rabbit, and Owl — pitch in to help Tigger find his family. The film deals with loneliness and the feeling of wanting to belong. (A word of warning for parents: The subject matter of the film may not bode well with adopted children.) The quality of the animation in ’The Tigger Movie’ lies somewhere between Disney’s usual theatrical releases and Saturday morning cartoon fare. The colors are nice, and there are some multi-plane shots, but for the most part, the animation is simply average. The film is slowly paced at the beginning, so some youngsters may get bored. The seven original songs are mostly catchy and fun.

The Buena Vista Home Entertainment DVD of ’The Tigger Movie’ brings us more than a smackerel of quality. The film is presented in an anamorphic widescreen and is letterboxed at 1.66:1. The image is crystal clear and there are no obvious defects in the source print. The colors look very good, and there is no evidence of bleeding or over-saturation. The DVD is a single-layer disc, but shows no problems related to compression. The audio on ’The Tigger Movie’ is a Dolby Digital 5.1 that sounds very good. The dialogue is always clear and the songs sound especially nice, demonstrating a fine dynamic range and a good deal of bass response. There is a good deal of surround sound action, with musical cues and sound effects from the forest.

The DVD is jam-packed with extras. There is the original theatrical trailer, which features almost a whole song. There is a trivia game based on the movie. There is a ’Thingamajigger Matching Game’, where one must decide which object goes with the appropriate character. There is an option that will assist viewers in forming their own family tree. There is a DVD storybook of the film, where viewers can choose the option of reading the story or having it read to them. The DVD also includes a music video by Kenny Loggins for the song ’Your Heart Will Lead You Home’. And finally, there is a sing-along for the song ’Round Your Family Tree.’ ’The Tigger Movie’ is a fun film for the whole family and Disney has certainly done the film justice by loading the DVD with extras and bringing us a fine transfer of the movie. Oh bother, I just got honey in my DVD player!
