While most action films look and sound great on DVD, I have recently come across several comedies that pack a punch with their visual and audio presentation, like “Jawbreaker”. This DVD is presented in full-frame, or a beautiful 1.85:1 letterboxed format. The letterboxed picture is very clear and there are no obvious defects in the source print. The film contains many bright, pastel colors and they contrast very well with the dark backgrounds in the film.

The dazzling palette of colors is accompanied by a pounding Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. There are many musical interludes in the film, and the modern rock soundtrack simply roars from the speakers. However, the music never drowns out the dialogue, as the sound is well-mixed.

“Jawbreaker” is obviously a homage to “Heathers”, concerning
the death of the most popular girl at Reagan High at the hands
of her cliquish friends. When the school geek stumbles across
the murder, her silence is bought by transforming her into a beautiful, popular girl. There are some fun cameos by the like of William Katt, P.J. Soles, and Marilyn Manson, as a scary lounge lizard. If you’re a fan of “Heathers”, or of high-school revenge films, then check out “Jawbreaker”.
