In 1971 Hollwood legend Glenn Ford appeared as a guest speaker at a National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences meeting. Shirley and her husband were in the audience to listen to what the actor had to say. Later that night, her dream came true when she had the chance to meet and talk to the star. “Glenn has always been a screen idol of mine,” she tells us, and admits that she liked his performances in "Gilda" and"Affair in Trinidad" with Rita Rayworth the best. “After a some-twenty year admiration of his screen presence and acting talent, I finally got a chance to meet him.”
“It truly was a dream come true for someone who had early aspirations to be part of the movie industry. During my early adult years, I had began vocal and dramatic training. However after working briefly as a club singer, I devoted full time to being wife and mother. I found Glenn Ford to be completely charming, every bit the genial and handsome man he delineated in a host of enchanting films.” |
