As you might have already noticed, “DVD Review” now also contains a section with links to the World Wide Web. Our “Cool Links” are a collection of interesting sites and places on the Internet that we have gathered for you. It covers various aspects, from pure DVD related sites, over hardware manufacturers of DVD and home theater equipment all the way to print magazines covering DVD and modern home theaters in general. The most interesting section, in my eyes, is the “points of interest” section and at this point I would like to urge you to use those links to investigate the sites we listed there. I don’t know how you feel about it, but I usually find the most exciting places on the web by sheer accident, while surfing looking for something specific. Most of the times I get sidetracked and sometimes end up on web sites that are more interesting than what I originally sought for. Let’s take “ZENtertainment” for example. This site offers a newsletter that is sent out about twice a week. It contains information on all aspects of entertainment media in a very compressed form and delivers it right to your e-mailbox. The newsletter covers music releases, TV schedules and news, movie news and release information, computer games and whatever else there is. If you are not familiar with the Internet Movie Database (IMDB), here’s the deal on that one. The IMDB is certainly the largest database regarding movies and it contains literally anything you could possibly want to know about movies. Search for you favorite movie and just take a look at the plethora of information this database contains. It covers banal information, such as the actors and crew on the film, but also covers technical aspects, financial information, reviews from all over the world, memorable quotes, plot summaries, information where the film was shot, and so forth and so forth. For us here at “DVD Review”, the IMDB has long become an important source to double-check our information. And if you think you have information you would like to contribute to the database, the submission form helps you get your information right there without problem. The IMDB has just recently been completely updated with a new update - which for my taste is a bit too cluttered and slow compared to the one it originally had - but still all the information is there, right at your fingertips. I don’t want to cover all the sites we list in this “Points of interest” group, just make sure to visit them all. They all take you to exciting places where we at “DVD Review” have spend quite some time and whenever we will encounter new exciting web sites, we will add them to the list. Since we opened our chat areas a few months ago, many of you used it to discuss interesting matters of interest and points-of-view with other DVD users. As you have certainly noticed, it is a much friendlier environment that the public usenet newsgroups. However, every once in a while, posts appear even in our chat areas, that exhibit a serious lack of good taste and are simply rude if not provocative. We do not monitor all the threads in the chat forums and I would like to ask you, help us keeping the chat area friendly and productive. If you ever encounter posts that are profane, of bad taste or outright offensive, please send a brief email to webmaster@dvdreview.com. This is a much more efficient way to inform us about those posts than starting a new thread, asking us to remove these messages, which might slip our attention for a number of days. That way we can turn around immediately and remove offensive messages. Some people purposefully post offensive messages in the chat forums and we would like to have those messages removed as soon as possible, without exposing these vile threads to too many people. Finally, I’d like to let you know that we have set up a feedback page for our readers. With the first anniversary of “DVD Review” coming closer, we believe it is time to double-check if we were hitting the marks or not. I can’t believe it has been almost a year already that we started this web site, and yet, considering how much work went into it, I guess, I do believe it has been a year. Please let us know what you think and help us improve these pages. Tell us what you like and what you don’t like on these pages and what kind of information you would like to see in the future. Help us gather and supply the information that you want. Your input is invaluable to us, because with the data accumulated from the feedback page, we will hopefully be able to see where your focus is, and we can adjust our own focus on your premier interests. Apart from helping us make “DVD Review” a better source of information for everyone, there’s also something in it for you. As long as we run the feedback page, we will also give away a free DVD every week to one of those of you who tells us their opinion. Make sure to fill in your email address when you submit your feedback and with a bit of luck, you might be the winner of a DVD next week already. So, click here and we’ll take you to our feedback page, where you can help us making “DVD Review” the premier source for DVD information on the Internet. Take care everyone and enjoy your movies |
