ere we have some more images that come directly from the disc of “The Abyss.” Please notice the level of detail in all these images, and how the menu transitions take you inside and outside of the Deepcore.

Here is a section that is called “Operations”. In minute detail it takes you behind the scenes of the production as James Cameron explains his intentions and thoughts. It also covers many technical details of the production as well as logistic information with a level of detail that will leave you awestruck.

The cast and crew biographies on the disc are extensively explaining who the people are that made this movie happen, even including detailed information on the director of photography, the underwater supervisor and others.

Almost every gadget and vehicle from the movie is having its own detailed chapter. Learn everything about deepcore, the technology behind it, the ROVs “Geek” and “Big Geek”, the fluid breathing systems, the specially designed diving equipment and all the other exciting technologies you can see in the film.

If you are into special effects, a 20-minute reel that shows many of the effect shots from the movie will put a smile on your face.
Shot by shot you can see how the shot was achieved, through liner notes at the bottom on the screen, as in this one here.

With these impressions of a great special edition I would like to conclude this Production Diary. I hope you had as much fun following this project as I certainly did. Big thanks have to go to producer Van Ling without whom this Production Diary would have been impossible to make, and his commitment and time to make this such a great release.
Thanks also have to go to the folks at 20th Century Home Entertainment, namely Rick Rhoades and Sven Davison for their time and support. Most importantly however, thanks go out to writer/director James Cameron, producer Gale Anne Hurd and the entire cast and crew for making “The Abyss” a reality.

Please let us know if you enjoyed this Production Diary. You can either send us an
email or take it over to our Message Boards.for public discussion.
