I am always amazed at how this world seems to be dominated by complete morons. Our entire culture these days is centered around the fact that you can always find some idiot somewhere who spoils the fun for everyone. Case in point, some moron in Connecticut called Bob McGovern, who is suing Samsung because his Blu-Ray player won't play certain discs. Now, I agree that incompatibility issues can be aggravating at times, they are typically resolved rather easily with a simple firmware upgrade. But all of that doesn't help if you're faced with some lowlife hellbent on getting rich quick through a frivolous lawsuit. It is for people like this that our entire society is essentially run by lawyers these days, who make a killing putting fear into every corporation and who encourage anyone to sue others even if there are no grounds to speak of. After all, they have nothing to lose – they win either way. In a world where people should have gotten used to the fact that every item we carry contains high technology, and where we should have learned that such technology is always flawed, a lawsuit based on an 'inconvenience' is simply ridiculous. Not even my cell phone does what it's supposed to do properly. Do I sue the manufacturer as a result? No, because I have a sense of decency that seems to be missing from way too many people. Only once we get of the preposterous assumption that everything around us is there only to cater to our whims and personal satisfaction, we may actually make this world a better place again. Until then, we have to watch legions of filthy lawyers get richer every day rubbing their hands in anticipation of their next client idiot who may be a little disgruntled.

(Guido) I agree a lawsuit is overkill... but the threat of one that is now in the public eye should be more than enough to motivate the company.
(Marcus) That is a thing of beauty! Now here's hoping it's less than $500!

The whole point I was trying to make is that yes, it is okay to get upset if your player locks up or discs won't play. It annoys me with my Pioneer DVD player, which locks up more frequently than my HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players together.
But to sue over something as trivial as that? Just give me a break. You have to be a complete moron to even consider that an option.

Finally somebody sees where I'm coming from! (jr).. I'm not complaining, being an early adopter.. but it's not very responsible commerce to put out an incomplete spec when the competition was complete long ago.
As for the Panasonic player (Marcus).. I did consider that one but it doesn't have the TrueHD or DTS HD processors built into the player. It was a toss up between that one with 1.1 spec or the Samsung 1400 with the HD audio decoders (since the $800 Sony 500 was not an option at the time).
I know enough people that are interested in jumping on board Blu ray, that I could probably sell my Samsung to them next year and pick up a 1.1 or 2.0 spec player (as long as it has the Audio decoders... I don't want to have to buy a new amp)
Perhaps I should invest in a PS3 as well... I game enough that it would be worth it, even if I only use it to watch a few movies... and it would allow me to play 1.1 and 2.0 spec discs when they are released.

Hard to defend Samsung when companies release an unfinished product to the general public and do little to educate them that the reward for adopting their product early on is incompatible discs within a year. I own Blu and HD-DVD, and despite the massive potential for growth for Blu, the HD-DVD largely came onto the market a complete product. There is a lot to love with both technologies, and as much as Blu-Ray appears to be the true future of Hi-Def, it is almost unforgivable that an established criteria was not solid until long after consumers laid down their cash. Perhaps a lawsuit is overkill, perhaps not. My instincts told me that they would be rushed to market and didn't buy either format at first (and with one of my Blu being a PS3 I feel some security for future upgrades), but I certainly understand the frustration of the hundreds behind the lawsuit. Is it any wonder that the VAST majority of dvd consumers have chosen NEITHER format? Most people do no want to have to find patches and firmware upgrades

Since HD quality DVD video is a new technology, maybe people would complain less if they were just patient and just researched what they buy before spending money. I did that and bought the BluRay Panasonic BD-30 with 1.1 profile and i avoided Samsung players because everyone complained about them. The Panny has given me absolutely NO problems, no jitter, no nothing, and I didnt waste money.

That's a very good point about Microsoft, Guido. But that's a software operating system.. it's meant to be updated all the time. It would be more like, if you bout a DVD burner and it messed up 25% of your discs each time you burned them.
I hope this guy fails too... it's bad press. But this IS aimed at one manufacturer who has been less than productive getting their firmware updates out to the public. Maybe it will light a fire under Samsung's butt to get them to address these issues (I have a Samsung 1400 and it gives me some picture jitter once in a while... I live with it until the firmware fix comes out)
But the way I read the article from another site is: this guy already has about 10000 people filing with him.
At least all the other good press for Blu ray (Netflix, Best Buy stuff) outweighs any of this stuff, eh?

If things were that simple, why isn't anyone suing Microsoft? For 15 years now we've been plagued by Windows that never works...
As for the group suit - we call it a class action lawsuit - fortunately the moron has to find that many people first to feel the same way he does. Right now it's just him trying to make big stink and I hope he fall flat on his face with a bundle of court bills.

Give up Anthony. This is a new thread. I live in Canada... we don't sue over little things like this.
But (again if you learn to read) this issue with this fella is a GROUP suit! (10000 other people are suing with this guy).
Maybe they should have FINISHED THE PRODUCT before they released it, eh?!

Its probably "Matt" from the last thread thats suing, seeing as he continues to bellyache about incompatibility issues and has decided that because HE gets occasional 'flicker' from his BR player, that ALL of the rest of us must also be getting flicker. Complainers and idiots usually sue.
