It is hard to believe, but this month. Yes folks, it has already been a year that we have had the privilege of enjoying movies in their high definition glory in our living rooms. Hard to believe it's been so long already and it sure doesn't feel like it but here's a to HD-DVD. After the turn of the year it looked as if the high definition machinery is slowing down a bit as there were only few new title announcements and a lot of postponements. It got to the point that I got a sense of things really getting out of shape a bit but then within a single week came from pretty much all studios involved in the high def push. We're now looking at full slates again – provided they will not be delayed or pulled – with some cool titles lined up. I still get the sense of history repeating itself as we see high definition versions of a lot of the same titles that were used to establish the DVD format 10 years ago but maybe that's not a bad thing. After all, in many cases it's been 10 years since I last saw these films and it sure is fun revisiting some of them. that both formats keep touting, though. I still see a number of movies make it from the theaters onto DVD only with a high definition version somewhere in the cards 'later in the year.' I'm not sure that is a wise approach, especially if it based on the studios' hope to sell a DVD version and then re-sell a high def version to the same people at a later date, because from my experience and rather hold out. So why not turn these releases into a concerted effort, getting the most out of your marketing bucks, your promotional push and turn out a DVD and high definition release at the same time?
