The Holidays are almost upon us and for the next two weeks, expect activity here on the site to be a bit reduced as well prepare and enjoy our Christmas time. In the new year then and I for one am very curious to see how that turns out. With HD-DVD and Blu-Ray now in the market CES should be a great forum to take a look at second or even third generation hardware and maybe get a feel for the features we can expect from those players. No doubt, they will all get slimmer and a bit cooler but what about pricing? where most people just shake their heads at it or will the Blu-Ray camp try to actually pierce the market with hardware that is as attractively priced as HD-DVD? What about HD-DVD, or so? And the, of course, the mother of all questions, that plays CD, SACD, DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray? What blessing that would be… Anyway, for now I'll simply enjoy the Christmas Holidays and prepare for the New Year. I hope you will do the same, and stay safe during this time of year.

Someone that would buy any machine which does not play both Blu-ray and HD-DVD must of come of age after the Beta vs VHS days, or simply has money to waste.

The price for Blu-ray players will drop eventually, and the average consumer will warm up to the high-definition format. HD-DVD is doing quite well at the moment, but it doesn't do 1080p/24p or HD-DTS lossless sound. So, the competition between formats will be strong for sometime.

Tiger Direct already has the Samsung Blu-ray player for 599.99 so it looks like it's already beginning to drop.
