HD-DVD enters the second generation

The high definition battle takes interesting turns again and again, and yesterday we've seen another one when to be available before Christmas. is actually supposed to go on sale in as little as
While I always knew that Toshiba will be racing 2nd gen players to market to give the prototype-like HD-A1 a major overhaul in terms of integration, I have to be honest that this still came a bit out of the blue. Only a short while ago Toshiba publicly denied plans for 2nd gen players, which only goes to show that you cannot believe anything coming out of a corporate PR department because they have an agenda of their own. Frankly, this Christmas despite LG's claims to have abandoned such plans.
HD-DVD is performing briskly in the market, unlike Blu-Ray, and again they slap their competitor right in the face. . While Toshiba has been shuttling out numerous firmware upgrades for it HD-A1 player on an almost monthly basis, announced a first firmware upgrade for October – months after the launch of the broken player. This is ludicrous and shows that the company Why not make it January? I am convinced there are people at Samsung who make remarks like 'Ah, the player may be buggy but I don't think anyone really cares.' The entire attitude you get from Samsung – even as a member of the press – is outright offensive and Samsung need to get their act together, seriously, so stay away!
I would have never thought things would play out this way but the HD-DVD group certainly has a much better grip on things and even without the backing of every major studio, they have been making impressive leeway and And given the difference in attitudes between the camps, I say, all the power to them! At least they are fighting for your money.

I have the HD-A1 and all i can say is MORE POWER TO TOSHIBA. I really hope they win this format war. HD-DVD has everything i was hoping for. It looks great, works great and i didn't have to take a second mortgage out to purchase it. "PAY ATTENTION SONY!"

Sweet words to my ears! I've been a highly-satisfied HD-A1 owner for 3 months now, and the level of consumer satisfaction that Toshiba has demonstrated with their firmware updates via DVD-ROM has been exemplary. Now, to learn of their forthcoming Q4 2nd generation units only exemplifies their commitment to stomp the Blu-Ray camp in the marketplace. We need only BD's supporting studios to realize that there's a goldmine awaiting them with supporting HD-DVD titles as well.
